Foreign Affairs portfolio

Appointed Foreign Minister by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Timotheos succeeded Taye Atske Selassie amid a wider cabinet reshuffle. His agenda includes advancing Ethiopia’s regional diplomacy, balancing ties with Western, Chinese, and Middle Eastern partners, and promoting climate and development initiatives. A key current focus is Ethiopia’s pursuit of sea access and regional security cooperation in the Horn of Africa .

Public image and influence

Regarded as a technocratic and articulate minister, Timotheos combines legal expertise with diplomatic negotiation. His leadership reflects Ethiopia’s broader shift toward technocrat-led governance, though his dual role as a policymaker and legal defender of past state actions continues to attract scrutiny from human rights observers .
