Au coeur de l'inde Nagpur
Nagpur is a city in central India, in Maharashtra, with a population of approximately 2,051,320. It is nicknamed Orange City for its orange production.
When it all began
In 1889, four French sisters from the lay branch of the "Society of the Daughters of Saint Francis de Sales" arrived in India. (This society had been founded in Paris under the impetus of Father Henri Chaumont, with Madame Carré de Malberg.) The bishop of the newly erected diocese of Nagpur, taking advantage of a holiday in France, asked Father Henri Chaumont to send some members to the lepers of Nagpur, India.
What began as just four members of DSFS has grown into a thriving organization that helps many poor and needy people. Today, the Salesian Missionary Sisters of Mary Immaculate dedicate our lives to various ministries, particularly in the areas of education, health, social services, and pastoral care.
