Sümi’s Baghi Hoho adopts decisive resolutions on child adoption

Zunheboto, July 27 (MExN): The Sümi Hoho has resolved that if non-Naga children are adopted, they should not be given Sümi name, nor should they receive a no objection certificate for scheduled tribe and indigenous inhabitant certificates.

As per customary law, they have no hereditary property inheritance rights or village chieftains rights, the Sümi Hoho further resolved.

“Adopted non-locals who subjugate any Sümi or instigate falsehoods among Nagas will face heavy penalties,” it added. 
These decisions were part of the ten resolutions unanimously adopted during the Sümi Baghi Hoho (Sümi General Public Meeting) held on July 26 in Zunheboto.

As per the Sümi Hoho, the main resolution at the meeting pertained to child adoption, and the meeting also resolved that there is “no objection to the adoption of Naga children.”

At the public meeting, Resolution Committee Convenor Vihoshe Mürü read out ten resolutions that were unanimously adopted by the congregation of over 1,000 people from all walks of life, stated a press release from Hotoshe Sema, Joint Secretary, Sümi Hoho.

Earlier in his presidential address, the Sümi Hoho President I Nikheto Jimomi expressed his appreciation to the Sümi legislators, present and former leaders of Sümi Frontal Organisations, elders, church members, and prayer warriors for their unwavering support to the Sümi Hoho over the past three years.

Addressing the occasion, Minister G Kaito Aye highlighted the development works being carried out and those in the pipeline for the district. 

He also urged Sümi Kükami (GBs) to lead with honesty, dedication, and foresight and appealed to the Sümi Hoho to honour performing Kükami annually to motivate others. 

The Minister also called upon the Sümi Hoho and other Sümi Frontal Organisations to focus on development in the district and to take “stern action against GBs and retired government servants” who have joined various Naga political groups, as this hampers progress.

Meanwhile, Commissioner & Secretary Y Kikheto Sema lauded the Sümi Frontal Organisations for holding the grand gathering of Sümi from all over Nagaland. 

He also urged the community to maintain peaceful relationships with all Naga tribes. 

Kikheto also called for refraining from the negative use of social media and also discouraged GBs from involving themselves "in faction groups." 

He also stressed the need for clean elections, noting that the Sümi has the highest election expenditure, and thus the public should not blame politicians for the lack of development.

Alluding to the Bible, he stated that the government is supreme and should be respected and honoured, and called for respecting Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who, according to Kikheto, was ‘chosen by God.’ Good people should not suffer because of the bad actions of a few, he added.

Dr Hokishe Yeputhomi, former President of the Sümi Hoho, also encouraged community leaders from village levels to apex bodies to demonstrate their leadership qualities as expected.

Er Picto Shohe and Akükau Hetoho Zhimomi, President of the Sümi Kükami Hoho, appealed to all denominations to celebrate the Quasqui Centennial of Christianity in the Sümi area. 

Tolino Chishi was also felicitated for her successful achievement in clearing the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exam.

Meanwhile, the new team of Sümi Hoho for the tenure 2024-27 was also declared on the occasion. The new office bearers are Dr Vihuto Asümi – President; Dr Hotokhu Chishi - Vice President; Hotoshe Sema - General Secretary; AkükatouIkuto K Yepthomi, Hetoshe Zhimomi and Vikavi Assümi – Secretaries; Vikiho Arkha - Finance Secretary; and Akükau Müghavi Zhimo - Assistant Fin ance Secretary.

Dr Hutton Sümi, Pastor of the Sümi Baptist Church Zunheboto, prayed for the incoming and outgoing SH office bearers and Executive Council Members, the release added.
