Tamuna Museridze, a 40-year-old journalist in Georgia, discovered her biological father was her Facebook friend for three years during a search for her birth parents.

A 40-year-old woman in Georgia, who had been adopted at a young age, discovered her biological father had been her Facebook friend for three years. According to a report with BBC, Tamuna Museridze, in 2016, was cleaning the house of the woman who had raised her, after her passing away. It was then that she found a birth certificate with her name but an incorrect date of birth, and doubted she was adopted.

Curious to find out about her biological parents, Museridze, a journalist by profession, set up a group on Facebook, hoping to find them.

Some days later, Museridze received a message from a woman who claimed she knew another woman in Georgia who had secretly given birth to a child around September 1984.

The woman believed she might be Museridze’s mother and provided her name to the latter, the report stated.

Museridze immediately searched for her online but when she couldn’t find anything, she decided to post an appeal on Facebook asking if anyone knew her.

A woman soon responded, saying the woman who had concealed the pregnancy was her aunt. She asked Museridze to take the post down but she agreed to do a DNA test.

While they were waiting for the results, Museridze made the phone call to her mother.

“She started screaming, shouting – she said she hadn’t given birth to a child. She didn’t want anything to do with me," Museridze recalled her biological mother as yelling at her, the report stated.

A week later, the DNA results arrived, indicating that Museridze and the woman on Facebook were indeed cousins. Armed with this evidence, Museridze managed to convince her mother to acknowledge the truth and reveal the name of her father. It was a man called Gurgen Khorava, the report stated.

Museridze found that Gurgen Khorava had been following her stories and had been on her friend list on Facebook.

They planned to meet as Museridze connected with him. According to the report, Museridze’s biological father was unaware of his partner’s pregnancy and never knew he had a daughter.

As they met, 72-year-old Khorava hugged Museridze and stopped to take a moment to look at each other, smiling.

Later, Khorava also invited all his other relatives and introduced them to Museridze, some half-siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles. The family agreed there was a strong resemblance between them, the report stated.

Museridze finally got to speak to her biological mother while a Polish TV company was filming a documentary on her.

On the conditions of the company, Museridze’s biological mother agreed to talk to her in private.

Museridze found out her mother had given her up and kept the secret for 40 years.

She also learned her mother and father were never in a relationship and only had a brief encounter.

Her mother – overwhelmed by shame – chose to hide her pregnancy.

In September 1984, she travelled to Tbilisi, telling people she was going for surgery, and instead gave birth to a daughter. She stayed there until arrangements were made for Tamuna’s adoption, according to the report.
