Adoption agency Preet Mandir, which is facing charges of running an adoption racket, has shifted its office in Pune Camp area to their Unit No 2 in Kalyani Nagar. The agency has taken permission from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), shut its offices in Camp and shifted all the 11 children to Kalyani Nagar although a letter from the Women and Child Welfare Department, which is in possession of this paper, states that they need permission from the High Court for shifting children.

The agency cited medical reasons for two children below six years to shift and the authorities got an order from the Child Welfare Committee. They shifted 11 children to their Kalyani Nagar adoption home which houses 54 children. The 11 children were shifted to Kalyani Nagar on August 20.

When CWC member Anita Vipat was contacted and asked why permission to shift was given, she said the agency had cited medical reasons and permission had been granted as they were shifting to one of their own units. “I am not aware of the department’s letter. I had given them permission as it would be convenient for children as the agency had stated they had better medical facilities at Kalyani Nagar unit,” says Vipat.

Preet Mandir authorities maintain they shifted as they had the remaining children at the Kalyani Nagar centre.

Another official and caretaker at the unit said the shifting was done in a hurry. “There was no reason to shift in such a hurry. We have to understand that these children were staying here and they were shifted in a day. Moreover, nearly 47 ayahs or maids were asked to leave without prior notice, This is truly highhandedness. The staff, who had been associated with the organisation for more than 10 years, are contemplating to go to the labour court,” said an official.

With the agency facing criminal charges and the Central Bureau of Investigation filing a chargesheet against the agency's managing trustee Joginder Singh Bhasin, wife Mahinder and son Gurpreet, they were supposed to take all permissions regarding the agency from the court.

The agency had been earlier given orders to clear “in-pipeline” adoption of 12 children and had also got an extension of in-country adoption licence for clearing the remaining children.
