President Traian Basescu said Thursday in Brussels that the law on adoptions will not change, "at least" as long as he is president, regardless of lobbying that would make "in Brussels and beyond."

"With regard to adoptions, Romania has a national law. It lobbies however, Brussels and beyond. Romania does not change the law on adoptions at least as I am the president of Romania ," Basescu said, answering a question.

A petition calling for the reopening of international adoptions by Romania was closed March 23, at the proposal of MEP Victor Bo?tinaru and the consent of all members of the European Parliament Petitions (PETI).

The petition, submitted by Marco Griffini behalf of the organization "Amici dei Bambini" ( "Children's Friends" n.red.), Involved the "observance by Romania international conventions on children's rights". By petition requested the reopening of international adoptions, respectively sanctioning Romania under Article 7 of the EU Treaty.
