Srinagar, Feb 06: Two of the three babies abandoned at the Lal Ded (LD) Hospital here last month have finally been adopted.

In January, two girls and a boy were found in the premises of the hospital.

Since then, the hospital staff has been taking care of them.

A senior official, requesting not to be quoted by name, told The Kashmir Monitor that the boy and a girl were adopted by two childless couples.

“It’s nice to see childless parents coming forward and adopting the babies. Although the boy is still with us, the girl has been taken by her new parents,” the official revealed.

“They are all fine now. During this period of one month where the babies have been kept for adoption, the hospital has taken utmost care of all the three. Now, we just hope the third baby gets adopted as well,” the official said.

The boy, as per the official, was found wrapped in a polythene bag in the backyards of the hospital, and had been bitten by a dog.

The CCTV footage had shown an unidentified woman dropping him in the backyards.

The hospital administration had registered an FIR in Raj Bagh police station in this regard.

Ghulam Mohiuddin, the Station House Officer concerned, told The Kashmir Monitor that they haven’t found any information about the unidentified lady.

“We have the CCTV footage and the team is investing in it. We are hopeful of an outcome very soon. Abandonment of babies is a cruel act and it needs to be stopped,” Mohiuddin said.

“The guilty will be found and punished.”
