LUDHIANA: The adoptive parents of 10-year-old Pratigya have moved a local court for annulment of adoption

(https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/adoption), so that the girl can return to her parents. The girl had gone missing last

year and later adopted.

The first hearing would be held on August 14. Her adoptive parents said initially the authorities were not cooperating or guiding

them with the procedure to annul adoption, but they approached them after the TOI highlighted the issue.

This issue, the matter reached the department of social security and women and child welfare and some officials approached

me. Thereafter, the Punjab officials approached the department of social defence, Gujarat

(https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/gujarat), and they helped me in filing the application in the court.”

Sheeba, a resident of Ahmedabad, wished the procedure completed soon so that Pratigya could return to her parents.

On the other side, parents of Pratigya are waiting for their daughter to come home. Her mother Hema said, “This wait is getting

longer. I don’t have patience to wait for her. A few days ago, we went to the child care home to meet her. She was crying and

asking us to take her home. I hope the court procedure ends soon.”

According to social welfare officials, since the child was adopted through the court, the adoption could be withdrawn through

court only.
