A month on, Jhansi ‘orphan’ yet to be reunited with family
BHOPAL: A six-year-old boy from Jhansi, who went missing in May and was living in a Special Adoption Agency (SAA) of Bhopal, has still not been reunited with his parents, even after he revealed his exact home address to a couple from Ahmedabad who wished to adopt him.
The child had been made legally free by the Child Welfare Committee of Bhopal after the SAA certified him as an orphan. After the Ahmedabad couple found his biological parents, the pre-adoption process was sent for cancellation, but despite efforts of the members of the Jhansi CWC, the boy is yet to be sent home.
The CWC Jhansi wrote a letter to the CWC Bhopal to send the boy back to his parents, but the CWC Bhopal has not been able to take any action in the matter. Jhansi CWC members have also spoken to the higher officials of the Women and Child Development department. “We wrote to the CWC Bhopal to take the child back from the SAA and send him to Jhansi, but they have not taken any action. The mother of the child has been waiting for her son and keeps coming to us to ask about him. The SAA has not even allowed her to talk to the boy over phone. We are not able to help her,” said Abid Khan, chairman of Jhansi CWC,
“We have spoken to everyone other than the chief minister himself regarding this case, but even the higher officials have given us hollow assurance. We do not know what to tell the mother of the boy. If he can even be shifted to a shelter home in Jhansi, we can arrange for the mother to meet him, but the child is still in the adoption agency.
Every time we call the CWC Bhopal for follow-up, they tell us that the case is in court and the child will only be freed after the court order,” added Khan. The Jhansi CWC is now planning to write a letter to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to take cognizance of the matter and unite the child with his real family. The MP Commission for Protection of Child Rights also wrote a letter to DPO, Brijesh Tripathi, asking them about the investigation report in the case, but the DPO has not provided the commission with any answer. “It has been 17 days that we wrote a letter to the DPO to provide us with the details of the case and how the child was declared free for adoption. We are yet to receive a reply,” said MPPCRC member, Brijesh Chouhan.
