Thane: Former social worker, couple nabbed in illegal adoption racket

KALYAN: A former social worker has been arrested in connection with an

illegal adoption racket along with the parents of a seven-month-old child.

The Thane police, with help from the child protection officer of Thane

district, arrested 28-year-old Manshi Jadhav, who worked with a child care

centre in Dombivli, where she would conduct surveys of parents wanting

to adopt children.

The police suspect that she must have collected details of these parents

wanting to adopt children and after quitting her job lured them with illegal

adoption citing years of legal procedure in the usual adoption method.

The incident came to light after Ramkrishna Reddy, child protection officer of Thane district learnt from a couple that Jadhav

had offered them a child to adopt at a cost of Rs 2 lakh.

Reddy told TOI, "The team nabbed Jadhav and the parents, who wanted to sell their youngest child among seven others and
