New Delhi: Six people including two employees of a Noida-based IVF clinic were arrested after police busted an adoption racket running illegally in the national capital.

According to the police, the IVF clinic employees used to sell babies to childless couples. The accused have been identified as Ikrat alias Guddi (30), Renu (28), Moni Begum (30), Rekha (46), Yogesh (36) and Mohammad Saddan (50), reported the Times of India.

“With the arrests, we have solved a case of illegal child trafficking. The kidnapped baby was safely recovered. We also seized Rs 5 lakhs from the suspects,” DCP (Rohini) Pranav Tayal was quoted as saying by TOI.

The incident came to light after police received a call about a newborn baby's kidnapping at around 3.30pm on April 1. When cops rushed to the spot, the child’s mother said she had been sleeping with the baby by her side but woke up to find him gone. A case was registered and police formed a team to trace the child.

Police went through several CCTV footages. Police identified suspects after seeing the CCTV footage and questioned Ikrat and Saddan, the baby's father.

During interrogation, they confessed to the crime. Ikrat revealed that her friend Renu was also involved in the crime. She also revealed that the baby’s father, Saddan, was also involved in the kidnapping and they planned to sell the baby to make big money. Ikrat and Saddan had administered sedatives to the child’s mother, after which Renu fled with the baby,” the DCP added.

The duo then allegedly handed over the baby to the IVF clinic in Noida extension. The clinic's employees - Yogesh, Rekha and Sonam were also members of the adoption racket.

Police said that the accused received Rs 50,000 each whereas the baby's father Saddan received Rs 1 lakh cash. Later, police recovered the baby from Faridabad and handed over to his mother after formalities.

Police are further investigating the case and efforts are on to nab the absconding members of the racket.
