Police found a lifeless newborn baby at an address in Sandved on Friday evening. The mother has been charged and arrested by the police.

A young mother in South Zealand has been arrested and charged by the police for killing her newborn child.

This is stated by the police in a press release.

The woman was produced in a constitutional hearing at 10:30 a.m. at the court in Næstved. Here she is charged with having killed the child immediately after birth.

- It is a tragic case when a dead infant is found and the mother is charged with murder, says Susanne Bluhm, special prosecutor.

At the constitutional hearing, the woman was remanded in custody for four weeks, but pleaded not guilty to murder.

The police were heavily present on Friday evening and into the night of Saturday.

However, she acknowledges the conditions in section 238, which can result in up to four years in prison.

This section can be used when a mother kills her newborn child, and it is assessed that the woman committed the murder either due to fear of dishonor or due to "weakness, confusion or bewilderment" caused by childbirth.

The doors were closed during the court hearing.

However, the police were on the scene for most of the night, where they also received assistance from the Emergency Management Agency.

- The Emergency Management Agency will be out there with tents and lights, and we will do some technical investigations in the area, said the duty manager from last night, Lars Denholt, to Ritzau.

The police further write in the press release that the discovery of the infant in Sandved currently has nothing to do with the case from Slagelse. In that case, the police had received a tip that an infant could be buried in the facility.
