Collaboration with INEA

The search possibilities for adoptees in Indonesia are strengthened by a collaboration between Ibu Indonesia and INEA. With this collaboration, Ibu Indonesia receives support to carry out more searches and to further professionalize its working methods.

James, manager of INEA came to Groningen especially for the start of the project to sign the cooperation agreement with Berber. Our board members Nani and Sonja and our coordinator Dadang Supardi from Yogyakarta were present online.

“Thanks to the collaboration, we can expand our work and make it futureproof. This way, no knowledge is lost and we can help even more adoptees and families.” – Berber, chairman of Ibu Indonesia

“We are pleased to support the work of Ibu Indonesia. Their knowledge of the local eld is essential for good search capabilities.” – James, Manager at INEA

Local expertise and years of experience in the field Since 2016,

Ibu Indonesia has been conducting searches with a permanent group of eld workers in Indonesia. More than 80 searches have been completed so far. In about half of the cases, the family named in the adoption le was actually found. DNA research also conrmed the relationship in many of these cases. This experience has led to a careful, locally embedded approach – with an eye for all interests and possibilities

What does the collaboration entail?

The collaboration with INEA means that Ibu Indonesia can expand and improve its work. What does this mean to you?

1. Welcome centers in Jakarta and Yogyakarta

In Jakarta and Yogyakarta we are opening a “Welcome Home” where adoptees and families whose children have been given up for adoption can go. You will find: Information about adoption practices until 1983 Explanation of how a search works Information about Indonesia And: a warm welcome, a listening ear and a cup of coee. The popular Ibu Indonesia roots trips are also organised from the welcome centres. Are you planning to go to Indonesia? You are most welcome at the “Welcome Home”. If you are not (yet) traveling to Indonesia, but would like support - for example, during a search - you can contact us.

2. Free DNA testing for found families Thanks to the project, free DNA kits are made available to Indonesian families who are found during a search, or who report themselves to a welcome center. Where DNA kits were previously not reimbursed from the subsidy of the Dutch government, this is now possible.

Good news: You no longer have to bear these costs yourself. A search is now fully reimbursed by the subsidy of the Dutch government. Want to know more? Get in touch!
