Lucy Buck – CHILD’S I FOUNDATION FOUNDER AND PROJECT DIRECTOR

Luck Buck

Formerly a leading television producer, Lucy went on to establish the Child’s i Foundation this year. During the last 4 years of her television career, Lucy spent 5 months a year in Uganda playing a key role in the administration of the Sanyu Babies’ home in Uganda.

In 2006 Lucy visited famine-struck Northern Kenya where she produced and directed a fund raising video for the specialist UK charity Merlin (”Medical Emergency Relief, International”). This video helped to raise nearly £100,000 for the famine relief efforts.

Lucy has produced many compelling television programmes including BBC3’s popular child psychology series House of Tiny Tearaways, BBC’s Upstaged, Hells Kitchen and Comic Relief does Celebrity Fame Academy. Her role as producer has seen her set up and manage teams producing prime time million-pound TV shows.

FRASER SIMPSON – CHILD’S I FOUNDATION LEGAL ADVISER

Fraser in Uganda

Fraser Simpson is a solicitor in the Charities Team at Stone King Sewell LLP in London, having previously worked in the City with Linklaters LLP. He first met Lucy whilst painting a school in Uganda in 2007 and has been involved in the creation and development of Child’s i Foundation ever since.

Fraser is a member of both the Charity Law Association and the Association of Human Rights Lawyers and he also contributes articles for a number of legal journals. Fraser is passionate about Africa, he spends lots of his spare time volunteering and taking photos of lions and leopards! He is also a board member of Young Philanthropist, an innovative grant making micro-trust comprising of young professionals in London.

Kirsty Stephenson is a freelance digital project manager / creative planner.

Kirsty has worked for various advertising and media agencies including Mindshare Worldwide, Ogilvy Interactive, Tribal DDB and Delaney Lund Knox Warren. Her clients have included HSBC, Unilever, Nike, BP, Motorola, Playstation, Rolex and Ford. She is currently working for Endemol.

HAZEL BUCK – CHILD’S I FOUNDATION TRUSTEE & COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING

Hazel has been a very active member of the village of Rotherfield, volunteering on the PTA, Sports Club and the Rotherfield Players committee. The highlights of her community involvement include overseeing the production of over 1000 costumes for the Rotherfield Village Pageant and after being selected for an EarthWatch Millennium Award becoming a Trustee of the Rotherfield Millennium Green.

Matthew was co-founder and technical director for the international digital agency de-construct. His clients include BBC, Adidas, Panasonic Europe, Smirnoff, Cartoon Network, Ladbrokes, Telewest, Supernoodles and FCUK. The role at de-construct combined team management, strategy, gathering business and user requirements, technical creative R&D and architecture, and technical account direction.

Christine is a New Zealand CA qualified accountant with a broad range of commercial experience gained within large blue chip companies such as Guinness and ITV, public sector experience from Kings College Hospital in London and SME start up companies in New Zealand, China and India. She has been heavily involved with the financial and business planning aspects of Child’s i Foundation  since July 2009.

BRIAN WALLER – CHILD’S I FOUNDATION SOCIAL WORK ADVISER

Brian Waller

Brian was Director of Social Services for Leicestershire for 9 years, as Vice President of the National Association of Directors of Social Services, he was its national lead officer and spokesman on Children and Families.

After local government he moved into the Voluntary sector where he ran both a national and an international charity. As CEO, he headed Home-Start UK, Britain’s largest family support agency for 6 years. He then led Home-Start International, which is active in sixteen countries including Uganda, Kenya and South Africa. In this period he directed two European Union research studies looking at how policy changes might benefit disadvantaged children and their families.

He has travelled widely in Sub-Saharan Africa, has written extensively on social policy and contributed to a number of academic publications, and has been a visiting professor at De Montfort University.

Luke is a tax director at Buzzacott specialising in charities, membership organisations and other not-for-profit entities. He is a qualified Chartered Tax Advisor.

As a member of the Charity Tax Group, Luke has been involved in HM Revenue & Customs’ consultation on the reform of Gift Aid. He regularly lectures to charity finance directors and trustees on Gift Aid, Tax Efficient fundraising and other direct taxation matters affecting charities.

Sally has been Operations and Finance Manager at Channel 4 News for 2 years. One of a management team of 4 responsible for all of Channel 4’s news output across their channels and website, Sally is primarily responsible for the logistical and technical aspects of the operation as well as managing the news budget.

Sally has worked in television for 10 years on a range of programmes which have included many in the developing world and in particular, Africa. But her passion for Africa began much earlier with a stint working for an NGO as a student, leading a project to build a school in rural Tanzania.

More recently and immediately prior to joining Channel 4 News, Sally worked for a British medical charity and DEC Member in Kenya.

Chartered Accountant and Managing Director of the Mill Consultancy – corporate finance and business development advisers.

Jerry’s career has seen him hold key positions in some of the most prestigious financial and consultancy institutions including Price Waterhouse and Deloittes.

He was Managing Director of Stagecoach in Malawi for 6 years. In his role as Chief Financial Officer for Select Software, he successfully took the company to a $60 million Nasdaq Initial Public Offering.

Jeremy trained as an accountant at KPMG in London. He subsequently worked for KPMG in Kingston, Jamaica. Jeremy has worked as a financial accountant in a number of blue chip companies in the City and spent 14 years as reporting accountant in a general insurance company. Since his retirement he has become involved in a number of local charities while working part-time as the financial director in a theatre.

ROB COMMON – CHILD’S I FOUNDATION TRUSTEE

Robert is the Head of Programmes for Hope for Children. He’s volunteered and worked in the sector for 6 years traveling across Asia, Africa and Europe working on child-focused development and humanitarian programmes. He is currently managing large scale programmes from large donors such as Comic Relief and The Big Lottery Fund as well having responsibility for all of Hope for Children project work in the UK and abroad.

NORAH OWARAGA – CHILD’S I FOUNDATION ADVISER, UGANDA

Norah

Norah worked for 15 years for the Change Agent Training (CAT) Programme, during which time she rose from Administrative Assistant to Executive Director. She was awarded the Uganda Change Agent Association (UCAA) Award of Merit in 2007. She is the founder and CEO of Executive Support Services, which provides consulting support services to executives of civil society organisations, government departments, businesses and corporations. Norah is a fellow of the African Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

She has a wealth of practical knowledge in grassroots self-reliant participatory rural development work, as well as administration, fundraising, and financial management for development organisations, as well as advocating for and with poor rural men and women.

Jo is Head of Operations at Jamie Oliver’s TV Company Fresh One.

Jo started working in documentaries nearly 20 years ago. Her proudest achievement is making a film about Guatamalan street children being murdered which led to the first ever conviction of a member of the Guatamalan police. Jo was also Production Supervisor on One Day in September which won the Oscar after tracking down terrorists that Mossad had failed to find.

Mark specialises in risk management and assessment of offenders as well as missing children. He owns WT Associates Ltd a Child Protection & Risk Management Consultancy. Prior to setting up WT Associates in 2005, Mark was a police detective specialising in major crime.
