09/25/2014

In two-part study has Appeals Board examined respectively adoptive parents and adult adoptees were perceptions of and experiences with the Danish adoption system. Both adopters and adoptees have answered a questionnaire, and each has participated in the interview.

Positive experience but long wait

The main findings include that most adopters have a positive experience of the approval process. Conversely, many applicants and adopters to wait between approval and delivery is difficult. General expresses both sides need more support in the time before and after the withdrawal of the child.

A significant group experiencing discrimination

Most adoptees thrive and have a positive view of adoption. A significant group has been bullied and discriminated against. A minority have sought professional support and advice. Delundersøgelsens results are not compared with a control group.

Not much contact with biological families

Get adoptees have contact or contact with their biological family. Several, however, have information. When there is no contact, due particularly to the adoptees do not want. Lack of contact or interaction must also be seen in the context that many adoptees are foundlings, and that there are often anonymity in adoptions.

Most adoptees may talk openly with their adoptive parents about their biological family. Adopters express the same.
