"I did not expect someone to offer me a biopic about my life at 30 years old. "She convinced me, I felt a lot of goodwill from him," says Olivier Rousteing about Anissa Bonnefont. "The camera forced me not to give in, not to let go, not to leave. It was like a pact made with myself, to go to the end. For all the children born under X. Nothing was censored, the pact it was the authenticity, "he continues.

If he had already made inquiries at the age of 16, Olivier Rousteing explains that he was not ready at the time. "I do not know if we are really ready for a day, to face this reality, but I felt much more ready today," he continues. "To know where we are going, we need to know our roots (...) like a flower that needs to have roots and water to open. I have always been looking for recognition because I did not really know where I came from, "adds Olivier Rousteing.

Complicated procedures

Organic research, "it's a lot of waiting, of doubts", explains the artistic director of Balmain. "We are not sure to find the elements when we are waiting for them, there are many uncertainties," he continues. He finally discovered that his father was 25 years old at the time and is Ethiopian and that his mother, a Somali girl, gave birth at the age of 14: "It was an extremely difficult time of life. I had great difficulty hearing and understanding what she experienced. I thought to see the writings of a mother, I saw those of a child ".

Followed by nearly six million people on Instagram, the stylist believes that life on the social network is "not the real life." "It's a life of clicks, that we control. But what is even more dangerous is that this life is controlled by us and by the number of people who follow us, "he adds.

Normalement, c’est quand on meurt ou en fin de carrière et je n’étais pas sûr de pouvoir gérer toutes les émotions de cette quête”, témoigne-t-il.

“Elle m’a convaincu, j’ai senti beaucoup de bienveillance de sa part”, assure Olivier Rousteing à propos d’Anissa Bonnefont. “La caméra m’a obligé à ne pas céder, à ne pas lâcher, à ne pas partir. C’était comme un pacte fait avec moi-même, d’aller jusqu’au bout. Pour tous les enfants nés sous X. Rien n’a été censuré, le pacte c’était l’authenticité”, poursuit-il.

S’il avait déjà fait des démarches à l’âge de 16 ans, Olivier Rousteing explique qu’il n’était pas prêt à l'époque. “Je ne sais pas si on est vraiment prêts un jour, d’affronter cette réalité là, mais je me suis senti bien plus prêt aujourd’hui”, poursuit-il. “Pour savoir où l’on va, on a besoin de connaître nos racines (...) comme une fleur qui a besoin d'avoir des racines et de l’eau pour qu’elle s’ouvre. J’ai toujours été à la recherche de reconnaissance parce que je ne savais pas vraiment d’où je venais”, ajoute Olivier Rousteing.

Des démarches compliquées

La recherche biologique, “c’est beaucoup d’attente, de doutes”, explique le directeur artistique de Balmain. “On n’est pas sûrs de trouver les éléments au moment où on les attend, il y a beaucoup d’incertitudes”, poursuit-il. Il a finalement découvert que son père avait 25 ans à l’époque et est éthiopien et que sa mère, somalienne, a accouché à l’âge de 14 ans : “Ça a été un moment extrêmement difficile de vie. J’ai eu extrêmement de mal à entendre et à comprendre ce qu’elle a vécu. Je pensais voir les écrits d’une mère, j’ai vu ceux d’une enfant”.

Suivi par près de six millions de personnes sur Instagram, le styliste estime que la vie sur le réseau social n’est “pas la vraie vie”. “C’est une vie de clics, que l’on contrôle. Mais ce qui est d’autant plus dangereux c’est que cette vie est contrôlée par nous et par le nombre de gens qui nous suivent”, ajoute-t-il.
