Swedish couple adopted a baby Indian girl who had been abandoned by her parents. The adoption officially went through on Thursday, November 28, 2019.

The child, named Garima, had been living in a Child Protection Unit in Saran, Bihar after she was rejected by her parents sometime in May 2019.

All procedures of the court were completed to entrust the Swedish couple with the girl who had been living in the adoption centre.

The couple flew to India to pick up their seven-month-old adopted child.

The Chhapra Civil Court accepted the adoption claim and ordered the girl to be handed over to the couple. A birth certificate and passport belonging to Garima were presented.

It was revealed that approximately six months ago, the baby was found in a box near a canal in Panapur, Chhapra.

After seeing the box moving, locals opened the box and discovered the infant. They immediately took the child to the hospital and reported the incident to the Child Protection Unit.

The child underwent treatment to get healthy. Meanwhile, Saran’s Child Protection Unit took the baby girl in and looked after her.

The organisation named her Garima and cared for her while also putting her up for adoption.

In November 2019, a Swedish couple went on the organisation’s website and requested to adopt the Indian girl.

According to reports, the 34 children have been adopted since 2016. The district of Saran has the highest number of adoptions in Bihar.

Those who are interested in adopting orphans and abandoned children have to go through an extensive process to ensure that the child is in the safest hands.

They first register online on the department portal and must provide all family details.

The Specialised Adoption Insitute then carries out a home study.

After, the photos of five children are sent to them where they select the one they want to adopt within 48 hours.

Following the selection, the adoptive parents have to obtain legal permission by sending an application to the local court.

When the court accepts their application, the parents receive a court order. Finally, the child is handed over to the couple.
