ATTENTION ALL GREEK-BORN ADOPTEES!!! PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST!!!*** (This post was originally posted on the private group “Forgotten Children of Greece”. More than 30 Greek-born adoptees have already agreed to join this lawsuit. This is open to all Greek-born adoptees)

***UPDATE ON ACCESS TO RECORDS AND RESTORATION OF GREEK CITIZENSHIP***

It is painfully apparent that the Greek state has no real interest in acknowledging us, making our birth, orphanage and adoption records easily accessible or restoring our Greek citizenship. We have been fighting for this for over 2 years now and enough is enough. Now is the time to take action and that is precisely what we are going to do.

***THE LAWYER FOR THE EFTYCHIA PROJECT IS MAKING PREPARATIONS TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN THE GREEK COURTS ON BEHALF OF GREEK-BORN ADOPTEES AGAINST THE GREEK GOVERNMENT, SUING THEM FOR ACCESS TO OUR RECORDS AND THE RESTORATION OF OUR GREEK CITIZENSHIP***

***WE WANT ALL GREEK-BORN ADOPTEES TO JOIN THIS LAWSUIT, REGARDLESS OF GROUP OR ORGANIZATION AFFILIATION***

This will be somewhat akin to a class-action lawsuit in the US, with one major difference: it can only apply to the plaintiffs (adoptees) named in the lawsuit, with a maximum of 50 plaintiffs per lawsuit. If there are more than 50 plaintiffs (adoptees), there can be identical lawsuits filed per each group of 50 that will be argued in the Greek court in the same session.

The cost per adoptee is estimated to be around 100 euros per person, but could be less, depending upon how many adoptees join the lawsuit. A group lawsuit is certainly the best way to approach this for three reasons: (1) the cost is negligible compared to each adoptee hiring their own lawyer, (2) there is strength in numbers, and (3) this may be the only way we ever get the justice we deserve. The Eftychia Project’s lawyer is highly-respected, licensed to argue cases in both the Greek and EU courts, and has won major cases in both. And she is as tenacious as a bulldog, prepared to take the case to the highest EU court if necessary. If we must go to the EU high court, there may be a small additional cost.
