Adoption defects

Description

Our project

200,000 is the number of Korean children who have been adopted since the end of the Korean War in 1953. For several years now, the voices of Korean adoptees around the world have been heard and their testimonies agree to paint a picture of a flawed international adoption system . Between demands and recognition of illegal procedures, Korean adoptees are now demanding compensation from the responsible states.

Among these states, Belgium. Despite its small size, our country has welcomed nearly 3,700 Korean adoptees , which ranks it 7th in the world in terms of the number of Korean children welcomed. This relatively high number of adoptions obviously raises questions: in what circumstances did they take place? To what extent was the Belgian government aware of what was happening on its soil, and what is its responsibility for the scale of the phenomenon?

Concretely, what are Adoption Defects?

Concretely, our goal is to lift the veil on the role of Belgium in international adoptions concerning South Korea. But more than that, it is the whole question of international adoption that we want to question. The goal of our investigation is to understand to what extent the system that has been set up between South Korea and Belgium can be considered as a special case or the simple expression of a systematic phenomenon .

Over the next year, we plan to travel across Europe and Korea in search of answers to this question. Interviews, analyses, documentary research... We want to give you a 360° view of our problem and provide the most complete answer possible to our questioning. To not miss any of our progress, you can subscribe to our Facebook page as well as our Instagram account . If you want to have an overview of our project, you can also visit our website which will be constantly evolving over the next year. It will include all of our productions, go take a look!

To support our project, you can make a financial contribution if you have the means. The funds collected will be used exclusively for our survey project. If you cannot donate, a "like" or a share with your friends will be greatly appreciated!

Our goals

1,500€: You help us to provide ourselves with equipment

At this first level, you help us buy or rent the equipment needed to capture images and make quality sound recordings for our investigation.

€3,000: You cover our travel expenses in Europe

This second milestone reached will allow us to cover travel costs between Belgium and France, with the necessary travel to meet experts and key witnesses to enrich a series of authentic stories. We will also be able to hire an editor to help us in the production of our web series.

€5,000: From this level, you help us finance our trip to Korea

You are helping us to give our investigation an international scope. This trip to Korea does indeed have a certain cost: plane tickets, accommodation, travel on site... We nevertheless believe it is necessary to give the most accurate view possible of our subject.

8,000€: Our trip to South Korea is funded

The goal of €8,000 reached, our trip to Korea is fully funded. As close as possible to our subject of investigation, you allow us to seek information at the source and compare the data that we will collect in Belgium with those of Korea, and especially to collect the testimonies of biological parents. We will be able to meet parents who are also looking for their children or who have been forced to send their children for adoption.

Do you want to support us?

The resources needed to carry out the project we are embarking on are considerable, which is why we are asking for your help. We are doing everything we can to finance this project with our own means, but we are nevertheless aware that your help will be crucial.

By supporting us, you will allow us to reduce our travel costs, have all the necessary equipment to collect our information, testimonies, conduct in-depth research and provide answers to those who have been affected by these illegal practices. Together, we can make a real difference. And that's not all, we also have something for you. In addition to the rewards to discover below, your name will also be honored at the end of our web series to thank you for believing in this project.
