In a bid to improve the lives of vulnerable children and their families in deprived communities, especially in Sella Limba Chiefdom in Kamakawie, one of the leading Child Protection Organizations in the country, Help a Needy Child in Sierra Leone {HANCI/SL}through its Hope and Homes for Children Community Hub project, has over the weekend presented Le20m as grants to fifty vulnerable families in that part of the country.
In his keynote address, Paramount Chief Alhaji Kandeh Luseni III informed this medium that HANCI/SL commenced work in his chiefdom about a decade ago and within the years of operation, the organization has raised vulnerable children and their families from poverty levels.
The Paramount Chief revealed that before the inception of HANCI/SL in his chiefdom, children of vulnerable families were unable to access education due to the fact that their parents perceived education as a privilege not a right; privileged because education, according to them, is meant for affluent people.
“I am pleased to let this august body know that HANCI/SL over the years of operation in my chiefdom has schooled over one thousand five hundred children and has raised families of the children to an appreciable level. I congratulate HANCI/SL and its Hope and Homes partner for a work well done.”
The Paramount Chief beseeched family heads or recipients of the grant to make good use of this timely intervention and emphasized that the sole aim of the grant is for them to engage in profitable activities that will eventually improve the socio-economic well-being of their families through educating their children.
Distributing the grants to the families, the Local Unit Commander of the Kamakwie Police Division, Albert Kargbo, assured the families that it’s their responsibility to provide safe and comfortable trading atmosphere for them, but strongly admonished them not to involve in any trade that will hinder the well-being of children in the community.
LUC Kargbo maintained that anybody who engages in any trade that may hinder the well-being of children will be charged to court.
“Such action will be taken because the government in collaboration with HANCI and its UK partner are very much concerned of the affirmative growth of children in this chiefdom”.
He thanked HANCI/SL and its partner for promoting and protecting children’s right in the country.
HANCI/SL Regional Coordinator North and Head of the Community Hub Project in Kamakwie, John M. Kargbo, commended the Paramount Chief, the security apparatus, other NGOs like Health Unlimited and Inter Aide and above all the community people, for their extra-ordinary support in making the work of HANCI/SL a success.
