Alarming situation of the Romanian abandoned children
Tuesday 13 June, from 4:00 to 4:30 during a press conference , room LOW N-1.2
and then
from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., room LOW S3.5
Claire Gibault and Jean-Marie Cavada are going to present the reality of the child protection system in Romania during a meeting. They are strongly opposed to the current policy lead by the Romanian government, and supported by the European Commission and Baroness Nicholson.
The guest speakers are going to be:
§ Mr. François de Combret:
-Vice-Chairman of CARE France
-Chairman of SERA ("Solidarity for the Romanian Abandoned Children", active in Romania since 1991)
-back from Romania, who will present the conclusions of his trip
and
§ Ms Janice Peyré
-Chairwoman of "Childhood and Families for Adoption" (association created in 1953 and state-approved since 1984)
-member of the French high council for Adoption
§ UNICEF Romania confirm its report dated 2005: "the number of abandoned children has not decreased significantly over the past ten years, maintaining itself at approximately 4000 children per year"
