A protest will be held today in Zrenjanin for taking the fire year old boy from a foster family. This story shook entire Serbia, because it all happened suddenly, in three days.

- When he came to me, he was like a loaf of bread, tiny baby of three months, they told the rights have been taken from the biological parents. And in these five years we bonded to each other. I would love for him to be happy, but I am afraid for him, because all of this adopting procedure in Sweden is going to fast. They took him away from me in just three days. I almost don’t sleep, I live on water alone - said for “Vecernje novosti” woman from Zrenjanin Ljiljana Radulovic, who can’t deal with the speed and with the way the boy was taken away from her, about who she took care of from diapers.

because of this, outraged parents of the children from the kindergarten where the boy went, their neighbors and other townsfolk, announced a peaceful protest today.

- We don’t know why the rights have been taken away from the biological parents, when he came to us, he did not have any visible injuries. He has a three year od brother who still lives with his mother and father. He turned five in September. Two years ago my husband died and since then we are left to depend on each other – adds Ljiljana.

She never told him that she did not give birth to him, but that she brought him, not knowing how to explain details, and the boy called her mommy, because he did not know for any other.

The law requires a minimum of one year searching for adoptive parents in Serbia, and then the child can go to a foreign adoption.

– They told me in the center in April that there could be a foreign adoption, but that was all paused because of elections. Since then, no one mentioned anything, and the last Friday they told me to come on Tuesday, because the people from the adoption agency might come. Then they took me to Belgrade, to the Ministry of Labour, where I saw the adoptive parents from Sweden with a translator – said Ljiljana.

On the same day the potential adoptive parents came to Zrednjanin to meet the boy, but the meeting was short because the boy was going to a friend on a birthday party. They saw him for the next two days, but outside, and on the third day the boy said he won’t go with them.

– On Friday he said that he was tired. I begged him to get dressed. I was afraid that someone might think I am talking to him in order to make some resistance. When a social worker came, he told in front of her that he won’t part from his mother, but he changed his mind when she said they are going to the playground “while mommy makes lunch”. I asked when are they coming back. She said “Don’t talk about that in front of the child, you will be notified from the center” – said Ljiljana.

Forster family is crucial to prepare a child for adoption because they help the most, said in theFoster parents association. In order to play their part well, psychologists need to prepare them for the most painless separation. In Belgrade it is done within the center for foster parent and adoptive parents center, and in Vojvodina, because of the lack of experts, there are no such centers.

From that Friday, the child hasn’t returned. She asked for a signed paper that the boy is not with her. She was told that there is no need. She said that no one contacted him the entire weekend and she was very worried, and then the neighbor told her that she saw the boy in the shopping mall in the playground.

– I went there to see if everything is alright without the intention to make any scene. I was worried. If they let me see him, I would only kiss him and told him to continue playing. But the translator immediately called for social worker and the incident occurred.

Ivana Mandic, who was present on the scene, told for “Novosti”.

– The boy was struggling and saying: “Mommy came to pick me up, I have to go”, while translator jumped on miss Ljilja and started insulting her. Future dad put the boy in the lap and told him something in Swedish but the boy tried to get away and he cried.

Ljuljana claims that her husband and her wanted to adopt the boy, but they were told that foster parents are not adequate for adoptions. It turns out that with my 60 years I am more than 45 years older than the boy, which is the legal limit. Ljuljana afraid what will happen to the child addressed the prosecutor’s office and the ministry, asking that she can make contact with the boy.

The officials claims that Ljiljana’s reaction is inadequate , even though, they say, there has been to problem so far. In family law, they add that, during the procedure of adoption, the public is excluded and that the data are classified, it must be kept a secret by potential adoptive parents, foster parents, center for social work, ministry and caretaker. Foster parent broke that part of the law. Everybody must work in the best interest of the child. Ljuljana was familiar with the procedure of the adoption from the start, as “Novosti” unofficially find out.

As was reported from the office for communication of MPs with citizens in Zrenjanin, inspection is questioning the legal procedure of the child adoption, who was under the foster care of Ljiljana Radulovic until 23 September.

“A child is going with my son in kindergarten who was left without his parents and was given to foster family as a baby. He’s been in that family for five years! The child is very good and very smart. Under some circumstances, one family member died. The woman is physically, mentally and financially capable of taking care of the boy as a single mother. BUT… the center for social labour in Zrenjanin gave the child away for adoption. FOREIGNERS WITH TRANSLATOR appear at the kindergarten… They came for the child. Kindergarten did not receive the notice in writing that the child has been given to adoption. Fosterer (woman who feeds him and takes care of him for the past 5 years) appears at the door. The child yells MOMMY CAME TO PICK ME UP! :( the FOREIGNERS people take the child to hotel Vojvodina with the translator. Now you tell me if this is all normal? Is it normal for a child to be given to some foreigners? Is it normal for a child to grab his mother while they drag him away from her like a rug??? I see the child all the time happy and well!!! Why are we giving our children to foreigners???
