Subject: UNCRC Acquis

To:

Dear Commissioner Reynders,

as Belgium foreign affairs minister you tried to assist Belgium adoptive parents whose children were stuck in the DRC.

The EU, together with UNICEF likewise lobbied that those children leave the DRC using the Hague Convention as argument.

Kindly see the following request for access to documents.

https://www.asktheeu.org/en/request/blocked_adoption_of_congolese_ch

Later you had to request the prosecutor to open an investigation and it turned out the children were kidnapped.

The European Commission due to the accession process of Romania to the EU does hold the knowledge that such instances are the result of wrongful policies and can be prevented by implementing and defending child rights as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The UNCRC is considered inseparable from the attainment of the objective of the treaty and therefore part of the EU Acquis.

Since the Barroso I Commission the European commission fails to act and to guard children's rights appropriately.

It is in particular within your own DG, the civil justice unit as well as the child rights coordinator, who are since now more than a decade trying to push the Hague Adoption Convention forward, illegitimately.

A convention which is in breach of the UNCRC and has proven to be disastrous for families and their children. This is going to have a very damaging effect for families in the EU and outside the EU.

Recently we came across the document titled:

Annex to the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child EU ACQUIS AND POLICY DOCUMENTS ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

It appears that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has again been omitted in this policy document.

Attached you find our blog about the issue as well as the previous communication with the European Commission.

Kindly let us know the current status of the UNCRC in relation to the EU Acquis and take appropriate action if again your DG made a "mistake".

Sincerely

Arun Dohle
